Dye Another Day
Please excuse the corny title, but I’ve been watching James Bond movies recently :) I’m sitting at my computer now waiting for my hair to be done. My dear hubby just helped me dye my hair with henna. We’re experimenting with natural ingredients like lemon and coffee and are curious to know how my hair will turn out. Last time I henna dyed my hair I didn’t use anything acidic like lemon or vinegar – which is supposed to help bring out a richer, deeper color – so my hair ended up looking pretty much the same, except I had some pale amber highlights. My hair was nicely conditioned and shiny, though.
Commercial hair dyes come in a wide variety of colors and shades these days, but I’ll never allow toxic chemicals to touch me. Traditional chemical-based hair dyes are loaded with cancer-causing agents and other harmful ingredients, so saturating your hair in them is like soaking yourself in poison. Horrors! Henna has been used for centuries to dye and condition hair safely, and you can achieve quite a nice range of colors if you know what to use. Next time, I plan to add beetroot juice or even hibiscus flowers to see if I can achieve a burgundy tint. I didn’t have any handy this time so I decided to go for coffee. Apparently that will give me chestnut tones.
Oops! Time for me to wash the henna out of my hair. Gotta go!
